Inclusive Education

Under Samekit Shiksha, children with special needs (Divyang) are added to the mainstream of education by providing additional support in inclusive schools. The following activities of Samekit Shiksha are being implemented in the year 2021-22-

Identification and enrollment of children through 'Samarth' technical system -

Samarth technical system has been developed for effective monitoring of identification, enrollment, teaching-training and other activities of children with special needs. A total of 3,15,806 children with special needs were identified by the special educators in the year 2020-21 through the developed 'Samarth' technical system. Samarth technical system is being further upgraded.

Development of Accessible Worksheets -

To meet the educational needs of children with special needs, accessible worksheets on language and maths have been developed for all the differently-abled children studying up to class 1-3 (except children with complete vision disabilities) and have been made available to handicapped children. The process of development of accessible worksheets for language and maths subjects for all differently abled children studying up to class 4-5 (except children with complete vision impairment) is in progress.

Measurement and Distribution Camp -

Measurement and distribution camps are organized following the protocol of Covid-19 in collaboration with ALIMCO, Kanpur to provide adequate aids and equipment to children with special needs along with various types of assistive devices and equipment such as Braille Kits, Mobility Cane, Smart Cane, Digiplayer, Tricycle, Wheel Chair, Crutches, Calipers, Rollators, Walking Stick, CP Chair, Multi-sensory education kit and hearing aid.

Accessories & Teaching Learning Material (TLM) -

Teaching-training is being provided to children with special needs under inclusive education. Arrangements are made to provide TLM to children with disabilities by special educators to enhance the methods of appropriate communication and to teach the subject matter.

Home based education for children with severe and multiple disabilities -

In the order of task number 186 of National Education Policy 2020, activities have been identified to provide home based education to children with severe and multiple disabilities. Arrangements have been made for home-based education by providing learning material to the children with severe and multiple disabilities according to their educational needs.

Distribution of Braille Text Books -

The State Project Office has signed an MoU with the State Braille Press, Lucknow for the educational rehabilitation of the visually challenged children. Arrangements have been made to provide Braille text books to children with visual impairment studying in schools.

Braille Stationery Materials-

There is a provision to provide Braille stationery material such as Braille paper, stylus, abacus, alphabet trainer plate etc. to the fully visually challenged children to meet their educational needs.

Distribution of large print textbooks-

Arrangements have been made to provide in-large print text books to the visually impaired children studying in council schools by the State Project Office in collaboration with the National Institute of Visually Handicapped, Dehradun for their educational rehabilitation.

Low-Vision Kit-

Arrangements have been made to provide low-vision kit material such as LED magnifier lens, full page frontal lens, white paper, bold marker etc. to children with low vision to fulfill their educational needs.

Distribution of Accessories/Equipment-

Under the ADIP scheme, in collaboration with ALIMCO, Kanpur, various types of accessories / equipment have been provided such as Braille Kits, Mobility Cane, Smart Cane, Digiplayer, Tricycle, Wheel Chair, Crutches, Calipers, Rollators, Walking Stick, CP Chair, Multi-Sensory Education Kit. There is also a provision to provide hearing aid etc. to handicapped children. 40 percent of the expenditure on equipment provided under ADIP scheme is borne by SSA and 60 percent by ALIMCO, Kanpur.

Special Educators (Eternity/Resource Teachers)-

Academic and therapeutic support is provided to children with special needs through special educators (HI, VI and ID). Special Educators HI, VI and I.D. Children with speech hearing disabilities, visual disabilities and intellectual disabilities, respectively, are educated / trained in an inclusive classroom and children are taught sign language, braille reading, writing and special skills. Online Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) is prepared by special educators through 'Samarth' app for teaching-training of children with specific needs. On the basis of IEP, educational activities for children with disabilities are conducted by them.

Physiotherapist-

Physiotherapy is provided by preparing therapy plan/child profile of children affected by locomotor disability, cerebral palsy, intellectual and multiple disabilities. The therapy plan includes case history, diagnosis, physical assessment, etc. Schools are selected by physiotherapists in which children in need of physiotherapy are studying. Physiotherapy of children is provided by physiotherapists under the guidance of doctors of district hospital/PHC.

Stipend-

In order to increase the attainment level of the disabled girl students and to empower them, there is a provision to provide stipend to the differently abled girl students.
